Joost (or juiced as they say)
Yeah, I'm still alive....
I've never been much of a writer and more of a private person, so I don't know what got in to me when I thought to start a blog on the Web. Writing, and for the whole world to read?
But since I started one I will keep it going when I have something to share. I suggest you get a feed reader and sign up for the RSS/atom feed of this blog if your interested. That will save you a lot of time checking for new content here.
Today, I checked my spam/bulk email box on one of my online accounts. Usually I just trash the mail in there without looking, but for some reason I checked it this time. To my surprise there was a message from Joost stating that I had been accepted as a beta tester.
A couple of months ago there was an article about this new video/TV over the web service in one of the print news magazines I subscribe to. It was right after the news that Google had bought YouTube and the article described how Joost is supposed to blow YouTube out of the water in regards of image quality. Joost had already signed a number of deals with content providers and was taking requests from prospective beta testers, so I signed up.
And today the email with the link to download the software arrived. I guess I'm lucky I checked the spam/bulk folder before deleting it....
So here I am, just downloaded and installed the software. A quick review learned the following:
- Over my home DSL link (768K) the image still freezes up from time to time. But the picture quality (full screen on my 19" Widescreen) is great. Looking at the little images on YouTube will indeed never be the same.
- The interface is very intuitive and fast. Perhaps the bottle neck in my system is the nearly full hard drive.
- The sound quality is good.
So now you know what I will be doing when I'm not blogging. I'll probably try to write a follow up review after a couple of weeks.
Doei!
